HC Timing alpine sports timing system is designed for alpine skiing, with focus on training. Main objectives are build quality, state of the art technology and user friendliness.

A key feature is live web results service - made possible by the Wi-Fi integrated timing module, wiTimer, along with any smart phone. Hence, family and others can view time results, current rank etc on their smart phone or laptop while the slalom session currently takes place. Time results can be analyzed thoroughly with respect to various ranking schemes and statistics - both online and on the wiTimer. Each athlete has a personal ID (Bib number) which is registered at the start. The name of the athlete will appear on both the wiTimer and online.

Reliable wireless transmission is crucial in order to prevent loss of timing impulses. HC Timing has developped a unique wireless radio protocol which relays the impulses through all the intermediate posts, i.e. wiNodes, positioned in the slalom course, known as a wireless mesh network. The start, intermediates and the finish all act as impulse relaying nodes. WiNodes can also be positioned throughout the course as bare impulse repeaters - if finish only is needed timing wise. Normally, intermediate nodes are positioned on pitches throughout the slope in order to allow best possible radio link between all relays. Consequently, the wiTimer will experience excellent radio reception quality everywhere.

Additionally, the system utilizes frequency hopping spread spectrum. Benefits include better resistance to radio interference and no manual radio channel selection. Hence, there is no need to find a free channel. The protocol also allows all wiNodes to be triggered simultaneously, without any loss of impulses.

The large sunlight readable colour display, intuitive graphics and logical guided menus ensure an easy and relaxed user experience. Various time comparison (+/-) options can be selected and are displayed for all split times - both live and on the wiTimer. Dynamically updated time arrival windows for each node can be enabled in order to avoid false triggers and remain athlete synchronization. The large display enables scrolling of previous results during timing. Impulse selections are easily post-edited if stray skiers cross lines within arrival windows. Incorrect BIB inputs at start can be changed by the trainer on the wiTimer.

New features and fixes are easily downloaded directly from the internet by means of the embedded Wi-Fi module. WiNodes are wirelessly upgraded through the wiTimer.

Did you know that all the wireless nodes (intermediates, start and finish), also act as wireless repeaters?


Did you know that you can place all your intermediate nodes in the slalom course in order to benefit from the wireless repeater feature (mesh technology), even though you only plan to solely use start and finish?


Did you know that you don't define a common radio frequency channel for the timer and the nodes? The system uses frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS) which means that the timer and the nodes are changing radio channels many times every second. This is very beneficial when channels are bussy or experience interference!
